Juan Daniel’s and Gilberto’s Really Cool Wish!
Juan Daniel and Gilberto have always had a closer relationship than most siblings. When most children have been outside playing ball, riding bikes, swimming, and playing with their brothers, sisters, and friends, Gilberto and Juan Daniel have shared each other’s company indoors. Their very rare skin disease, Epidermolisis Vullosa, has forbidden them to be in the sunlight or heat. Living in the southern most part of Texas does not allow a lot of time outdoors for these youngsters. The brothers were not only confined to inside their home, they were actually confined within the four walls of their bedroom, which was the only air conditioned room. Day after day with no change of scenery can become very monotonous, to say the least. When asked if they could have one wish, both boys, completely aware of the terrible consequences of the outdoors, immediately started thinking of things to enjoy within their home such as having their own television, DVD, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS, games, etc. By far the most important wish for both of them, however, was to have air conditioning throughout their home. More than anything in the world, they longed for the freedom to roam their home and visit with family and friends without always waiting for the world to come to them.
Little did Juan Daniel and Gilberto know when they arrived at their favorite restaurant, Peter Piper Pizza, was greeted by Sponge Bob, and surrounded by friends and family, that air conditioning was being installed and the house was getting cooler as they partied! They arrived home to find each child had his own little electronic headquarters with all they had wished for – and more. Thanks to Quitman Moon and Luxaire partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Rio Grande Valley, our little ones have fun filled days in air conditioned comfort.
